Summer Music Box!
Parents: have you ever wondered what it feels like to blow on a trumpet, bow a cello, finger a flute?...Why you wet reeds for a saxophone? ...How you hold a violin with your chin?
...Where is “middle C”? ...Or how you play a bass drum, a “tom” and a “high hat” all at the same time?
All of these instruments and more are in the Music Box for your child to explore this summer at The Shedd! At each class students are introduced to a different folk tune, some basics of music, such as notes and time signature, and get to try their hand at the instrument of the day! This unique, hands-on class is designed for students to drop in for some or all of the sessions at $8/session, or you can get a discounted “10-pack” of tickets so that you can bring friends and/or siblings as well.
Most adults have only played 2-3 instruments in their lives and can’t answer the above questions. This class broadens the horizons of music learning options, both for now and down the road as a child grows and physically and emotionally matures. Music Box helps answer the question “Where should we start with music lessons?” and “How do I find a teacher my child will like?” Grandparents have fun bringing students to class to share these experiences, and it always makes for lively dinner conversations!
Our summer Music Box runs from 10:00 – 10:50 on Thursday mornings, beginning June 23 through August 25.
