Jazz Advisor Ken Peplowski and company bring an end to the 16th annual Oregon Festival of American Music with an evening packed with Richard Rodgers all-time hits. Featured artists include Ian Whitcomb, Shirley Andress, Bill Hulings, Derek Smith, Howard Alden.
Featured songs include "Something Wonderful", "Blue Moon", "My Funny Valentine", "Love Me Tonight", "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'", "There's Nothing Like A Dame", "A Wonderful Guy", "Edelweiss", "You'll Never Walk Alone" and more.
A special feature of the evening will be a performance of Rodgers' Slaughter On Tenth Avenue from Rodgers & Hart's 1936 Broadway hit On Your Toes with choreography by George Balanchine. The ballet was integrated into the plotline of the musical by the device of having two gangsters watching it from box seats in the theatre in which it is staged. They have orders to shoot the leading dancer (played by Ray Bolger in the original show). The dancer, who has been warned just in time, evades them by suddenly dancing at full speed even after the ballet actually ends, and finally two police officers enter and arrest the gangsters. Can we recreate this in Silva? Come and check it out!
