Rockin' Rodgers
Wed, Aug 8, 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Shedd Recital Hall, The Shedd Institute
Many Richard Rodgers tunes have evolved and found a place amongst many other genres and styles in a way that most could have never predicted. Songs like “Blue Moon” went from being a hit for jazz singers, turned rockabilly when recorded by Elvis, to becoming doo-wop standard (“dip dee dip’s” and all). Ian Whitcomb will present a history of a handful of Rodgers songs and analyze what made them so universal and, in some cases, what made some of them stay put.
