Cotton Club Stomp Opening Gala Wed, Jul 30, 7:30 - 9:30 pm Silva Concert Hall, Hult Center |
|
We begin this year’s musical journey with an evening of music from the most influential night-clubs in the heyday of New York City night-life, the famed Cotton Club. We'll look at the Cotton Club’s golden years--from the late 1920s and early ‘30s--when it featured such giants as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Ethel Waters and more and go all the way through to the final years, with a look at Louis' Armstrong's contributions to the Club. We feature many songs that were written either specifically for the Cotton Club Revues, or songs that became popular through their exposure in these shows. Look for “Stormy Weather”, “Creole Love Call”, “Minnie The Moocher”, “Sophisticated Lady”, “It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, “Ill Wind”, “Diga, Diga, Do” and more!
