"Rhythm In The New World" immediately conjurs up two regions whose musics have fundamentally shaped the feel of North America and world music in the 20th century -- Africa and Latin America. Dizzie Gillespie explored the convergence of these two massive complexes of musical traditions during his Afro-Cuban "Jambo Caribe" period and OFAM Jazz Advisor Dick Hyman explores it again on our first Cuthbert concert with special guest Poncho Sanchez.
     The evening starts with Dick and his all-star bop band (including Peter Appleyard, Frank Wess, Tim Clarke, Steve Owen, and Doug Miller ) followed by the Grammy Award sinning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band. Finally, both bands join for a bop-Latin jazz finale. If you aren't off your feet, you probably aren't there!
