The songs of composer George and lyricist Ira Gershwin have long inspired jazz musicians. No list of jazz recordings of Gershwin songs could ever be complete; new renditions are added too frequently! Carl's group with singer Sonja Rasmussen will present vocal and instrumental versions of songs by the Brothers, including "But Not for Me" (à la Chet Baker and John Coltrane) and "They Can't Take that away from Me." We'll also hear George Gershwin working with lyricist Du Bose Heyward ("Summertime," in the Gil Evans arrangement), and Ira Gershwin writing with other composers after George's death (Kurt Weill's "This Is New," in Carl's arrangement).
