Bill Frisell
with Viktor Krauss & Kenny Wollesen
Tue, May 6, 7:30 - 10:30 pm
Jaqua Concert Hall, The Shedd Institute
Bill Frisell has long been recognized one of the most special guitarist/composers working today. From his stint with John Zorn's Naked City to his frequently awarded recordings on the prestigious ECM and Nonesuch labels; Frisell's insatiable appetite for change is evident. Whether it's jazz, rock, country, folk, or beyond; Frisell throws musical styles into a sonic blender with arguably the tastiest results of any "genre hopper". His talents as a band leader have been cemented by working with musicians as eclectic as they are influential including Elvis Costello, Wayne Horvitz, Jerry Douglas, Ry Cooder, and Jan Garbarek.
Frisell's trio lineup featuring Kenny Wollesen drums and Viktor Krauss (Alison's brother) bass will bring their spacious and economic improvisations to The Shedd for an intimate evening of compositions collected from the Nashville, Gone Just Like a Train, Good Dog Happy Man, and The Sweetest Punch albums. Frisell's sidemen are no less impressive in live performance with Kenny's signature groove and Viktor's balletic nimbleness on bass. In fact, Viktor was so impressive in concert recently that Bob Hurwitz of Nonesuch offered him a record deal on the spot! Don't miss Bill Frisell with Viktor Krauss and Kenny Wollesen live at The Shedd, May 6, 2003 in another of OFAM's popular Now Hear This concert explorations.
Bill Frisell on his trio with Viktor Krauss and Kenny Wollesen: "I first met Viktor Krauss when he played on my Nashville album. Since then he's joined me on Gone, Just Like a Train, Good Dog, Happy Man, and The Sweetest Punch. A lot of the music we play comes from these albums, but there's been a lot of new stuff added as well. Viktor has a completely original way of playing and a sound and feel to die for. Playing with Viktor and Kenny together is like riding in a 1959 Cadillac (that's running REAL good)."
